March 11, 2014 - Evaluation of Internet Sites

Sorry I'm not with you today... I'll be back on Thursday.

Please login to Skyward and check your grades. I have updated all grades and emptied my late work basket. If you have any assignments to turn in, please put them in my basket.

One of the objectives of the Communications class is:

Understand the value and credibility issues of information.

This is so you can learn to distinguish between what information on the internet (or in books, magazines, etc.) is real and what might be fake or inaccurate information . This will come in handy when you do research for classes especially. Today, your assignment is to pick one of the websites below and evaluate whether or not this website is a good website to use as a source for a research project you may get in a science, English or history class.

This is an assignment that counts on your grade Please take it seriously and complete it and turn it in today before you work on anything else.

If you finish early, you may practice techniques we learned in photoshop or you may work on previous assignments you have not completed such as the postcard assignment (below).

1. Download this handout and READ it BEFORE Doing THE ASSIGNMENT!!!
2. Download the Assignment (you can type on this document):

3. Choose one of the following websites to evaluate:

Sites to evaluate: (Pick one and have it open while you do your assignment)

Feb 20, 2014 - Logo Design and color manipulation using Fireworks

Create your own personal logo and submit it to my dropbox. Remember the Do's and Don'ts of the article you read on Tuesday.

NO COMPUTER/ONLINE VIDEO GAMES EVEN IF YOUR ASSIGNMENTS ARE DONE !!!!!

Here's the link if you forgot...
http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/design/10-logo-design-tips/

Extra Credit:

If you finish early, create your own version of pop art using a logo or product label in Fireworks (see Andy Warhol example below). DO NOT do a campbell's soup label... BE UNIQUE.

OR

redesign a popular logo to make it different... just changing one color on a one color logo is NOT a redesign.

The more effort you put into it, the more extra credit you will get.

Logo Modification / Creation Assignment

  • Note: SOME Tools are in a different location due to the fact that we have a newer version of Fireworks... especially the Paint Bucket Tool which has moved from the bitmap group to the colors group. Also, don't worry about labeling the vector path tool (fat paintbrush). It isn't needed for the logo creation assignment.

B8 - February 7, 2013

As I told you last time, your assignment today is to create a bouncing ball.

It is similar to the flashing name assignment, but you are making a ball move.

Here are a few directions to help you out. You can do it on your own if you want, but the directions below might speed you up.

1. Find a ball on the internet. One with a transparent background would be best. If you can't find one, copy and paste one of the balls below into Photoshop.
2. Open Photoshop and use the web presets of 800 x 600 size.

If you use the balls below, they may have a black background. To get rid of this, click on w (it will select the magic wand). Then, look for the tolerance box at the top of the screen. Change the tolerance to 50. Then, check the contiguous box and click in the black background to select it. Click on the delete key and the background will be removed. CTRL+D will deselect everything and you are ready to move on.

They will also probably be too big for your canvas. If you press CTRL+T, you can grab a corner and make them smaller. Then press enter to accept the Transformation.

3. Use the move tool (Press V on your keyboard) to move the ball off the canvas (it will start off screen).
4. Open the Frame Animation (Window=>Timeline), then click on Frame Animation (Create Frame Animation Button in your timeline)
5. Push the duplicate frame button to create a 2nd frame. (Right now, both frames won't show anything because the ball is off the canvas)
6. Move the ball onto the canvas to where you want it to bounce first.
7. Hold down the shift key and select BOTH frames.
8. Look for the Tween icon (It is right to the left of the Duplicate Frame button below your timeline. It looks like a ball bouncing!)
9. Click on the Tween Icon and choose how many frames you want between your two frames (15-20 would be good).
10. Try your animation out. It should show your ball coming on screen and arriving at the first bounce location.
11. Repeat steps 5-10 for as many bounces as you want to make. On step 7, you only need to hold down the two frames that represent the beginning and end of your bounce. (These are called Key Frames!)
12. When you are done, use File=>Save for Web to save your file as a .gif file.
13. Send me the .gif file to my dropbox. (http://www.dropitto.me/TMSWood) password: wood
14. The video below the pictures of the balls will show you a few more tweening tricks. If you have time, you can play around with these techniques to make something else.

See you next time!!!
